The furniture is stunning. We have a sturdy crib and a dresser/change table combo unit. They are both in a mahogany type colour, and considering they ship from Vietnam (and then all over the place to reach us locally at the Sears store) there was minimal damage to them. It took us more than a few hours to put together the dresser, which required us both to attend university to get our engineering degrees before attempting to follow the 20 page instruction book. But, we persevered without our degrees and were highly successful! I've included photos below. You can see the dresser has stuff all over it while I am transferring baby goods from our bedroom to his room. The long top of the dresser will be the change table, soon as we get the change table pad. Which means I have to find a new place to store all the books, lotions, etcetera that will need a home.
You can see the closet in another photo. All those diapers on the bottom are from Grandma and Grandpa. They take up the entire bottom of the closet is how many they brought to us! I've run out of baby hangers for clothes already, and still have two more bags of used clothing from people to wash and find a way to store. I've asked Sean to install a shelf above the closet rod for more storage space, but even that makes me wonder if we'll have space for everything. There are toys and books that need to go somewhere, so I'm thinking maybe a bookcase or small shelving unit of some sort on one of the walls.
We have my grandfather's old rocking chair, which is no longer pretty, but is still functional. We plan on using it as the feeding chair. I'm thinking of just adding a pillow to it to make it more comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Right now it's in our room in the 'breastfeeding nook'. I plan on moving it into the baby room beside the dresser after a month or two. I have no clue really. How long will I want to be able to stumble out of bed, go 5 feet and grab him up, travel another 4 feet and feed, then stumble back to bed? Hopefully we get a good boy who settles into a good feeding routine whom I can transfer into his bedroom early on, so that Sean can get some sleep at night and drive safely the next day.
We still have to finish half of the library shelves, but we are well on our way to completing most of the renos. Good thing too, since we only have 9 weeks til the due date. Next weekend is the baby shower and I am super excited to see everyone all together in one spot (well, minus the men folk - sorry boys). We figured no one would show up with a dishwasher and Sears had an unbelievable deal on no interest and equal payments for 39 months, so I finally get my dishwasher. It's my Christmas present and I can't wait til it's here. One more project for Sean - install plumbing and electrical for a new dishwasher! He's a busy guy for the new two months.
Oh - I failed to mention formally that baby boy is being named Calvin. We love the name, and hope other people will be able to come around to liking it with practice. The debate for his middle name continues. Enjoy the photos.
