Prenatal appointments are being switched down to once weekly now. Seems excessive to me, but I'm going along with it. Baby's head is still down where we want it to be according to the OB, and everything seems good. I did my own glucose monitoring at home, and my sugar levels are fine. Our doula comes up for another teaching session with us this week, apparently to work on 'comfort measures'. What she means is, she'll teach Sean how to massage me while also moving me into positions that will speed up labour. Which isn't any comfort to me - moving labour along (while a very good thing) means lots of discomfort! However, I will go along with her efforts of staying in the positive mind frame. At this point, I'm not afraid of the labour anymore, and look forward to having a measure of relief from not being pregnant soon.
Now for the fun stuff! Lori threw an awesome baby shower for us and it was so much fun. The boys crashed it, and I am told they all had a good time as well. There were games that brought out the cheaters in many of our friends and had me laughing. We were absolutely spoiled again with gifts for this little baby boy. The food was great, the cake was of course delicious, and it will be one of the most memorable days of my life. I never imagined after all these years that I would be the 'mom-to-be' at a baby shower....but I was and it was surreal! Thanks so much to Lori, Rob and Emma for opening their home to us and our families and friends. I know it was a lot of work and it is greatly appreciated. As if that wasn't enough, they also got us the awesome highchair you can see in the photo below. We've got it set up and ready for cousin Matty at Christmas and playmate Tristan to use when they are over, until such time as Calvin will fit into it.
To complete our preparations for his arrival, today was the final shopping day. We got all the extra goodies we wanted and/or needed to complete our readiness for baby. Quite by accident we found bedding that I finally liked enough to buy - a great steal at $50 for the whole set including the valance, skirt, pillows, sheets, quilt, and diaper hanger thingy. We also got lucky with a playpen that we both liked a lot and found at $100 less than normal. Sean was busy setting up and assembling all the baby gear today. You can see a couple photos of the completed crib with mattress now, the pack n'play playpen and in the corner of the playpen photo is the rocking chair/bouncer (that is currently acting as my footrest). Our house has been taken over by baby stuff - most of the time it is very exciting, and once in a while it's very frightening. Only thing left to get is the car seat from my brother, who swears it will be heading our way shortly. Everything else is set up and good to go - including Calvin's hospital bag!
