Yesterday we carved our pumpkin. He had fun with it and just loves jack o'lanterns. He enjoyed eating the cooked pumpkin seeds as well.
Today I was pretty excited about it all. By 4 pm I was just killing time trying to wait until we could dress him up and hit the streets. We ended up grabbing some drive through for dinner and putting his outfit on in the back of the minivan. He was super cooperative and even giggling while we were doing it. I was relieved and happy and glad we got him into a cute outfit without tears. It was raining steadily but not heavily, so we headed out in the rain to trick or treat.
After weeks of practicing saying 'trick or treat' Calvin did fantastic! He wasn't shy at the door with strangers. He would say 'trick or treat' and then try to go into their house and check it out. I laughed at each one and had to stop him from making himself at home. Such a social little guy. He would say 'who hoo hoo' when asked for a Tigger impression and he said thank you at each house for his loot. He really grasped the getting hand-outs part fast and would not let people put stuff in his basket, he would take it from their hands and put it in his own basket. It was super cute, the people at the houses were very friendly, and we had a fantastic time. It was really a lot of fun, Calvin was yelling 'hello!' to people as we walked by them on the street, and overall happy times for everyone. I think it's the best Hallowe'en I've ever had. We were so proud of him, friendly and polite at each door.
His favourite part of the night was a house with a pumpkin with a Pi sign carved in it. They were giving out whole large sized chocolate bars. He grabbed a giant Coffee Crisp bar, dumped his bucket of candy and took off, with his new prize in hand. I had to carry the bucket the rest of the night and he wouldn't let up his death grip on the chocolate bar. It still has baby hand prints melted into the side of it.
We had driven into town, to our old street to trick or treat. Sadly the people living in our old house were not answering the door so we didn't get to peek in, but our old neighbours were there and we did both sides of the street and then home. It was perfect for a first timer. And now we reap the rewards as we get to eat all his chocolate.
