We tried it last night. Calvin was tired and grumpy by the time we had cooked dinner and fed him and was pushing away foods we know he likes. Sean pinned his flailing arms down and I shoved a forkful of cake into that screaming mouth. Like angels descending from heaven singing song, there was peace and sudden joy on a baby face. Quiet happiness ed as he realized the true greatness that is cake. No more flailing, he sat prone, the only thing moving was his mouth, opening and closing looking for more cake. Even Nikki's carrot cake is divine. It is so good, I'm considering just getting a giant carrot cake and skipping the regular cake at his birthday. I know it sounds insane, because her cake is really good and why miss a chance for it. However. We'll see. They are both fantastic.
Calvin's bum seems fine with the sudden onslaught of sugar and cream cheese icing. In my attempts to ensure he gets a healthy dose of just about every fruit and veg and protein I can find, I cooked up some parsnip this morning. The smell of it cooking made me gag. Sean came downstairs and I brought the bowl over saying 'smell this', fully intending to gross him out. He sniffs it and says 'smells good!'. YUK. I then fed it to the baby, who loved it of course. Like Daddy, like son. Hopefully he tolerates parsnips as well and I can keep cooking up a wide range of veg like this.
Tonight is date night - Grandma and Grandpa Campbell are coming down to play and we are pretty excited. It's so nice to see family and watch Calvin's face light up when he sees them! Now if only he'll be good and play by himself so I can clean the house....
