He's also outgrown a bunch of clothes and it seemed like it happened all of a sudden. I'm not sure that getting anything that fits properly is worthwhile right now since he is nearly outgrown the 3-6 sizes. It leaves us with buying the 6-9 size, which honestly in most brands is too big for him. With summer coming up it won't matter nearly as much, thank goodness.
The past week has seen some big changes for our boy. He grew from a curious baby learning about his hands and how to grab stuff into a proper little baby. He uses both hands in conjunction with each other, passes things from one to the other, reaches across himself to grab things with the opposite hand, and he complains when he can't reach something or you take something away. There is no safe eating or drinking around him now - his hands grab and slap at everything. Now that he's got some weight behind him he can really knock things around too.
Sean spent a half hour or so last week blowing raspberries at him. I watched Calvin study Sean's face and you could literally see him learning. He then formed his little lips and tongue and tried blowing raspberries back at his Dad. This past week he has been practicing and trying to figure out how to combine his mouth and blowing to perfect this. I wish he had learned something less messy, but it was very cool to see him study his Dad and then try to copy it. He now sticks his tongue out constantly, which is something I had tried to teach him for two months. Apparently Dad is the go-to man when we want to teach something!
In other news, we have finally found a solution to the eczema that was causing issues on his forehead. Aveeno to the rescue! I tried the new cream for babies with eczema and within days he was cleared up. I went through a tube and a half of the other cream for over a month with no luck and this stuff fixed him up in days. It was great! He looks wonderful and his forehead doesn't itch him nearly as much now.
We had a visit from Grandma and Grandma (Shaeron) Newark on the weekend and met Sean's second cousin (I think). Eve and Terry were over from England and had a tradition of giving the new baby $20 to hold and telling him that it's the first bit on his way to his first million. It was very touching and we have socked away the special bill in his piggy bank. I'm tempted to open up a savings account for him and use it as the first deposit. He liked holding it and didn't want to let go. I said he was his mother's son - hold on to that money! It made me laugh. The Grandparents Newark also brought some lovely toys and books and we've had fun playing with them and reading the new books. Hopefully we get to see more of them sooner rather than later; we really enjoyed the visit and it always feels too short a time.
I'm not fixed up in the back enough yet to drive long distances without suffering, but we have had some great improvement. I vacuumed the house last week and didn't suffer at the end of it. I've been carrying that heavy baby and his car sear and the diaper bag around and it's not nearly as painful as the past 5 months. I am cautiously optimistic! My goal is to be able to just get in the car and drive for as long as we want or need to and not suffer. As for the P90X, I haven't gotten back into yet, though my physio guy says I am free to do so, but with extreme modifications of course. I am not doing the real version - just what I am able to do without causing any pain to my back or ribs. And I didn't do the diet portion of it, though with my belly the size it is still, maybe I should. I'll keep everyone posted on how things go. I gave up my electric breast pump rental due to cost, but it is the way to go. Note to new mom's and mom's to be: get an electric pump. The manual one that I SWORE by before I knew what I was talking about is killing my back every time I use it. Electric doesn't hurt the back. Go electric. I may even suck it up and just spend the money and buy a used one, it's that worth it.
Couple photos for you. While our puking baby has reduced his upchucks a lot, he still gets us about once a day or so. Disgusting normally, funny sometimes. Photo evidence below shows that on a rare occasion he'll get himself instead of his intended target (us).
