What was different and special about today's appointment though was that we got the results of the 20 week fetal anatomy ultrasound. Everything looks great! All the bits and pieces they look for and measure are all there, and within normal ranges. They again confirm that according to the ultrasounds (we've had 2 now) the EDC (estimated date of confinement - how old school!) is December 27th. We continue to simply say December 31st because a) I happen to have the dirty details of near exact dating for conception, b) it sounds way cooler to me to have the poor child born around New Years than Christmas and c) it's the date we had to begin with, so I'm just sticking with it. However, personally I'm estimating a birth date of January 3rd. I really really hope there is no early labour, no Christmas baby. Come Christmas I may change my mind if I'm huge, but while I'm still sane and thinking clearly, we want January.
Only unfortunate finding on the ultrasound was the development of a uterine fibroid. It's outside the uterus from what I gathered and located at the fundus (the top). I guess we get to watch this over time and see if it grows. If it gets bad, that means surgery for me. I didn't go into details about it, figuring we'll worry about that when it's time to worry. Strange thing is the old doc was convinced I had fibriods and had me do an ultrasound maybe a year and half ago or more. Nothing to be found then. They didn't mention anything about a fibroid at the 10 week ultrasound, so I'm guessing this has developed in the last 10 weeks. Let's hope it stays small and out of the way for a long long time.
With all the happy news of baby being put together just right, I left the appointment very pleased. Surprised though, as I only get the nurse practitioner for one more visit, then they pass me off to the OB at the hospital. Next 4 week visit is the glucose test (icky), then the rest of the pregnancy I see the hospital docs. Things are moving along too fast! Baby boy will be here before I know it and sleep will be a distant memory for me.
Both nurses today kept saying 'you must be feeling baby by now' and I keep reassuring everyone that I have not. Ultrasound revealed that the placenta is anterior (in front, basically on the front of my belly), so I'm going with the old wives tale that that is why I can't feel all the movement. I did however feel something odd this afternoon that could have been baby movement. We'll keep an eye out on that and see if it continues to happen, confirming that it really is baby.
