The tech asked me three different times if I was sure that I wasn't feeling anything yet, and then showed me on the screen why she didn't believe me. Shots of his feet pounding at my guts, hands floating all over, and him doing dives from the belly button back down to the pelvic bone sure look like I should feel all that movement. He was so active and moving around so much that it took her a bit longer to get all the shots she needed for measurements. She literally has to chase him around with the wand and hope he stays still just long enough to get a quick picture.
Speaking of pictures, this time I went in prepared and asked for an ultrasound picture. Maybe she was making up for the lack of photos the first time, or the abrupt manner she had during three quarters of the hour long ultrasound - because we got sent home with seven photos! No full body profiles really, but a skull shot that is pretty clear to see, and the bottom of two feet. I've included them here - hopefully they can be seen, as I don't know how to make them clickable to enlarge them on this website. Email me or leave a comment if you'd like an emailed copy, which you can see better and bigger.
Now that we know we are having a boy, and I'm confirmed for myself that he's indeed in there still and moving around (a lot apparently) I'm eager to get the baby room started. This is going to entail a lot of extra work because, well, I'm trouble and can't let my husband live a peaceful life.
- Horrible droopy stucco ceiling in sunken living room is getting torn down, drywalled if needed, painted.
- Horrible painted wood paneling in sunken living room is getting torn down, drywalled if needed, painted.
- Custom lovely bookshelves built and installed in sunken living room (yay!).
- Move all books from baby room down to new 'library'. Move all guest bedroom furniture to office.
- Find home for all of the office furniture.
- Begin baby room reno! Replace carpet with laminate, remove wall paper, paint, equip with fancy new baby furniture as supplied by a generous Grandma Campbell!
In car news, the mini van debate rages on. We went to look at the VW Routan. Sean popped open the hood and beckoned me over. He pointed at the small white sticker found in all cars, telling you about it's manufacture. It had a big Chrysler symbol on it. We stood and scratched our heads for a minute. I came up with wild theories about why it would be in there and how it can't possibly be a Chrysler engine inside a German engineered Volkswagen. Sean found other parts in the engine, all stamped with Chrysler on it. Over comes the sales guy to visit us. Sean played it cool, ready to work it into the discussion but I promptly freaked out. 'Is this a CHRYSLER engine in a VOLKSWAGEN?!'
Turns out it is indeed a North American engine, and not only that but the whole car is built in the Windsor factory of Chrysler. My heart weeps. We spent the night convincing ourselves that VW wouldn't take on a crappy engine or a crappy manufacture for everything else considering their reputation. But it is only in it's second year of production. I discreetly checked out the Town and Country reviews (same engine) to make sure that if we do buy it, at least it will last. The whole thing makes me nervous, but the space in that sucker makes you forget all your fears. We continue to discuss it, as the price on that one demo model is really too good to be beaten.
