He has lovely blue-grey eyes currently and we wonder if he'll get to keep that colour or if they'll change to brown over time. The recovery from the labour and eventual c-section was tougher on me than I thought, so that explains the long delay in updating here. Most everyone who wanted to know about his birth was already informed by Sean one way or the other though. We didn't win the free Sears furniture and in fact didn't even come close! He was born at exactly 39 weeks into the pregnancy. I wonder now if they didn't end up doing a section and I had no choice but to deliver 'normally' if he would have been born a day later. I may not have survived that long - it was crazy. As it is, his birthday is messed up for life poor kid. We are still in debate about how to ensure he gets a good birthday bash yearly.
He's been a really great baby so far for us. Breastfeeding is going great! He started out the first two weeks feeding on average every 3 to 5 hours. Worked out great for sleeping, which is what I had to do a lot of. I couldn't walk well really for the first 11 days, so I stayed on the reclined sofa and poor Sean had to do EVERYTHING. Except breastfeed of course. :D
We decided to get him circumcised and he had that done this past Thursday. Since then he's decided to eat every 2 hours or less, and often he doesn't bother to sleep between that time. He'd rather stay awake and fuss and make me cry. Sean is to the rescue again though and he takes Calvin and lets me get some sleep for those fuss times. I am very afraid of what will happen when Sean goes back to work! I'm still not strong enough to lift Calvin in and out of his bedside seat/bed thing we have been using, though I try. I do it, then I hurt, then I have to wake up Sean asking for help. At this point I'm thinking of moving back into the spare room and just sleep with Calvin in the bed with me again until my abdomen can handle the efforts of lifting him frequently throughout the night on my own. (Note: if you plan on having kids, do your best to have a vaginal delivery - c-sections suck horribly). We think he may be going through a growth spurt with all this eating.
I've taken over 150 photos since getting home from the hospital, and a couple videos. Of those photos I don't have any good shots of him with his eyes open. Sleeping babies apparently are easier to photograph if you are me. Here are a few photos that turned out mostly okay. Hopefully more to come soon.
